The brake system is one of the main safety elements of the vehicle. Among its various components, friction materials such as discs and pads require periodic maintenance and replacement as they are subject to wear.
In order for the brake system to always work properly, it is necessary to keep the discs and pads in perfect condition. In fact, with each braking, friction causes material consumption, both on the part of the pads and the disc.
In order not to affect the correct functioning of the brake system, when a certain wear limit is reached, the brake discs and pads must be replaced.
It is recommended to check the brakes every 15,000/20,000 kilometres or whenever vibrations occur or poor braking performance is perceived. The main signs that indicate wear or deterioration of the brake disc and pads are:
– The brake indicator light on the vehicle dashboard comes on.
– Noises during braking.
– Presence of vibrations.
– Presence of deep circular lines or radial cracks in the braking band.
– Signs of overheating.
In certain cases, the brake fluid level can also provide useful information about the wear of the discs and pads.
